some of these shades, mostly the lighter ones, do need a base if you want them to not look muted. the rest of the colors dont need a base. this is good palette for colorful looks on the cool side. the shadows are soft, so no need to dig the brush in them.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS? if you like cool colors, yes. you made need a base if lighter colors are meant to be seen. if youre used to swirling the brush in for color on other palettes, this wont be needed for this palette, and actually might make a mess.

these shades all do well without a base underneath. its a good neutral palette for "everyday" looks. most people would use this everyday, however since i like more colorful looks, this wouldnt be all used in an eye look/ i might use it for a highlight, outer corner, or undereye color, but i like having brighter colors mixed in.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS? if you like neutrals, yes. if you want to mix in highlights and darker colors to more brighter colors, yes. if youre a fan of kat von d makeup or really like butterflies, go for it. i would snag this on sale or try to get a discount somehow.

i did swatch both of the butterfly palettes in a local sephora, and a family member went with me. they also ordered these as my easter present with the kit, to my surprise. these aren't going against my makeup ban, which i'm still going through with. the butterfly palettes are very pretty and the kit looks like a dream "goth girl set".
